Recurring job: what it means
DefinitionA recurring job is a visit that repeats on a set pattern, such as weekly lawn mowing, biweekly cleaning or quarterly pest treatment. The scheduling system creates each future visit from one rule, so the owner does not rebook the same customer by hand every time.
How it works in a service business
Recurring work is the steady part of a service business, because it fills the calendar without new marketing. The hard part is exceptions. Customers go on vacation, rain cancels mowing, and a holiday lands on a route day. Good setups let you skip one visit, pause for a season, or move a single date without breaking the series. The tradeoff is rigidity: a fixed pattern is predictable but can leave crews idle when a customer skips. A common mistake is editing the whole series when only one visit should change, which silently moves every future date. Check whether a change applies to this visit only or to all following visits.
Example
A customer has biweekly cleanings. She skips the visit during a trip, only that date moves to the open list, and the series continues on the regular days afterward.
