Route sheet: what it means
DefinitionA route sheet is the ordered list of stops a crew will make in a day, with each address, expected duration and key notes such as gate codes or pets. It can be printed or shown on a phone, and it gives the crew a plan without calling the office.
How it works in a service business
The sheet turns the dispatcher's plan into something a crew can follow. A good one shows the order, the time windows, customer notes, and the tasks at each stop. The tradeoff is staleness: a printed sheet cannot update when a job is added at lunch, while a phone view can. A common mistake is leaving out the notes that cause delays, such as dogs in the yard or the right driveway. Include a phone number for the customer at each stop, and a column for results. Keep a printable version as a backup for days when signal or batteries fail. The next morning, compare the plan with what really happened to improve the next sheet.
Example
A pool crew starts the day with a sheet of nine stops in driving order, each with the gate code and a note about the dog, and marks each stop as it is finished.
