What is double booking?
Short answerDouble booking is promising the same slot, person or crew to two customers at once. A cleaner given two homes at nine, or a groomer with two dogs on one table, are typical cases. The cost is a rescheduled customer, a rushed job, or a lost relationship.
The explanation
The mistake comes in two forms. The accidental form is a system or human error: two entries for the same slot that nobody noticed until the morning of. The deliberate form is overbooking, accepting more than you can handle because you expect cancellations.
Accidental double booking tends to cluster around a few moments: a phone call taken while the website is also taking a request, a schedule change made on a phone and not synced, or a recurring visit that lands on a day someone else reserved.
Whichever form it is, the customer sees one thing: someone promised them a time and failed to keep it. That lands harder in home services, where the customer took time off or prepared the house. Even a quick apology cannot fully repair a missed window, so prevention is less costly than recovery.
What to watch for
- Two people taking bookings from separate lists.
- Assuming cancellations will free the slot.
How Apex does it
Built, rolling out
Built. A real server path exists; only setup steps remain before customers can use it. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex shows only open availability to visitors, treats an online request as pending until it is confirmed, applies lead time and blackout dates, and colors the calendar by status so overlaps are easier to see.
