How to deactivate a field service account?

Process: Switching and cancelling. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerDeactivating a field service account usually stops billing and access while keeping data for a period, while deleting removes the data for good. Export your records first in either case, read the vendor's terms on how long data is kept and how to restore it, and keep written confirmation.

The explanation

The words differ between products, so read the vendor's own help page. In general, a paused or deactivated account stops charges and logins but may keep customer data for a stated period. A deleted account removes it, often permanently and often with no way back.

Choose deactivation if you might return, such as for a seasonal business. Choose deletion only after you have exported everything and confirmed the export opens. Note that card processing, phone numbers and integrations may live in separate accounts that need their own steps.

Keep the proof. Save the confirmation email or screenshot with the date and what was ended. If you ever need to recover data or dispute a charge, that record is the quickest answer. If the vendor offers a data export before deletion, run it even when you think you do not need it.

What to watch for

  • Assuming deactivation stops add on charges.
  • Deleting before running an export.
  • Not knowing the data retention period.
