What happens when software is no longer supported?
Short answerWhen software is no longer supported, the vendor stops fixing bugs and security holes, and eventually the service itself may shut off. Export your data now, set a switch deadline, and run the replacement beside the old tool before the old one stops working.
The explanation
The usual sequence is a notice, then a period with no new features, then no fixes, then shutdown. The most important date is the last day you can export your data. Find it in the vendor's notice and write it on a calendar.
Export first, even if you are not ready to choose a replacement. Customers, jobs, invoices and notes should be saved as files you control. Then check what depends on the tool: payment processing, calendar sync, text messaging and your website booking link.
Pick a replacement, run both in parallel for a few weeks, and move customers in stages. Keep the old export for years of records. Tell customers if the booking link or payment page will change, so nobody lands on a dead page.
What to watch for
- Waiting for the final shutdown date before exporting.
- Forgetting a booking link printed on cards or trucks.
How Apex does it
In progress
Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex works toward a customer CSV export at any time, data export on cancel and switch protection with a ledger. All three are partly built or built as screens, and none is complete yet.
- LD16Customer export (CSV) at any time(In progress)
- AD10Data export on cancel(In progress)
- OB14Switch protection (never lose data, ledger)(Rolling out)
Apex Flow Scheduler is in early access. See how we label status.
