How expensive is QuickBooks?

Process: Integrations and accounting. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerQuickBooks Online is not expensive at the bottom and gets costly at the top: the page lists Simple Start at $38 a month and Advanced at $340. [1] The ladder rises through Essentials at $85 and Plus at $140. [1] Promotional prices cover only the first months. [1]

The explanation

Look at price per user. Simple Start is $38 for one user, Essentials $85 for three, Plus $140 for five and Advanced $340 for twenty-five. [1] The cost per seat falls at each step, but the total rises.

The jump from Simple Start to Essentials is $47 a month by my arithmetic, which buys two more users and added reporting. [1] Whether it pays off depends on whether a second person actually needs access.

Most crews of under ten fit in the middle plans. A service owner who keeps books alone can start low, then move up when a bookkeeper needs access. Check the page for the plan details before moving, because features are reshuffled over time. A plan can be changed later, so start at the bottom.
