Is google calendar good?
Short answerGoogle Calendar is good for a solo operator with simple, one-person visits and is free to start [1]. Its appointment schedules add a booking page, up to five reminder emails and optional payments after connecting a Stripe account [1]. It lacks route planning, job statuses and invoicing, so crews usually outgrow it.
The explanation
What it does well is visible on the vendor help page: you can create an appointment schedule that sets availability, collect a name and email on a booking form, choose how to meet, and require email verification to cut spam [1]. For a consultant or a one-chair service, that may be enough.
What it does not do is the job of a field service tool. The help page describes confirmations and reminders but not arrival windows tied to routes, job statuses or crew assignment [1]. You also cannot edit the text of the reminder emails [1].
A fair rule: stay on a free calendar until you notice yourself rebuilding what a scheduler does, such as retyping customer addresses, tracking who is on which job, or chasing payments by hand. At that point the time you spend costs more than a scheduling tool.
What to watch for
- Tracking customer notes and addresses in event descriptions that nobody can search.
- Waiting until double bookings force the switch.
How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex has a connection to the owner's existing calendar and a multi-technician board, both in progress or rolling out. The aim is to keep a familiar calendar useful while adding crews and job statuses on top.
