How do I stop flooring customers from ghosting appointments?
Short answerSend the written quote within a day of the measure visit, follow up on a fixed schedule, and confirm install readiness before ordering material. Flooring customers ghost mostly after the measure, when they compare bids, so speed and a clear expiry date matter more than extra visits.
The explanation
A measure visit invests an hour or two, and then the customer disappears into the comparison phase. The company that sends a clear written quote first, with material, labor and timing spelled out, often gets the job. Delay turns a warm lead into one of three quotes in the customer's inbox.
Follow up with purpose. A message after two days that asks if they want to adjust the material, one after a week that mentions the supplier lead time, and a final one with the expiry date. Each gives a different reason to reply.
After acceptance, confirm readiness before ordering. Is the old floor out, is the subfloor sound, will furniture be moved. A customer who cannot answer is not ready, and ordering special material for them risks a non-returnable pallet.
Steps
- Send the written quote within a day of the measure visit.
- Follow up after two days, one week and just before the expiry date.
- After acceptance, confirm old floor removal, subfloor condition and furniture plans.
- Order material only after the deposit and the readiness answers are in.
In flooring installer
