How do I cancel a booking?

Process: Cancellations and no-shows. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerCustomers cancel most easily with a link in the confirmation message, and an owner should pair that link with a cutoff time, a fee rule and an automatic reopening of the slot. Easy cancellation is better than a phone only process because early notice gives you time to refill the day.

The explanation

Many owners fear cancel links, but a customer who cannot cancel easily tends to just not show up. A link in the confirmation and reminder lets them tell you early, and early notice is worth far more than a no show.

Pair the link with clear rules. State a cutoff, such as free to cancel until the day before, and what happens after: a fee, a lost deposit or nothing. The rule must be visible when the customer books, not only in the cancellation email.

Make the system do the follow through. The slot should reopen for new requests or the waitlist, the crew should see the change and the customer should get a confirmation of the cancellation. Look at your cancellation report monthly to see patterns.

What to watch for

  • Burying the policy where customers cannot see it.
  • Cancel links that go to a login wall.
  • Slots that stay blocked after a cancellation.
