What is route optimisation?
Short answerRoute optimisation is the British spelling of route optimization: choosing the stop order that cuts distance and drive time. The only proof it works is a before and after measurement on your own crews, using the same days, same stops and the same vehicles.
The explanation
The name differs by region, the idea does not. A crew has a set of stops, and different orders give different totals of miles and minutes. Optimisation picks a good order, usually by trying many and keeping the best.
To know whether it helped, measure. For a week, record each crew's odometer or fuel receipts and the clock time between first and last stop. For the following seven days, route the same type of work with the optimised order and record the same figures. Compare the totals per stop rather than per day, because days vary.
Savings are not certain to be large. A crew already working one tight neighborhood has little to gain. A crew crossing a metro area gains more. Keep the claim honest: you are looking for fewer wasted miles, not a number somebody quoted you.
How Apex does it
Rolling out
The screen and the rules are built and tested. Saving real customer data is not connected yet. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex includes a daily route optimization and route efficiency metrics for comparing days. The efficiency reports are built as screens and are not yet connected to saved customer data.
