How do I stop paying for software I never wanted?
Short answerStop paying for unwanted software by finding which account bills you, canceling through that vendor in writing, and asking for a refund of charges after your request. If the vendor does not answer, contact your card issuer. Keep screenshots and dates, since they decide the outcome.
The explanation
Unwanted charges usually come from a free trial that converted, an add-on that was ticked during signup, or a former employee who created an account. Find the descriptor on the statement, search your email for that name, and check whether anyone on the team signed up.
Cancel directly with the vendor first, and do it in a way that leaves a record. Use the account settings page if one exists, then send a short email stating the account, the date, and that you want billing stopped and recent unwanted charges refunded. Save the reply.
If the vendor ignores you, call the card issuer, explain what happened, and share your records. Disputes are judged by documents, so dated screenshots help. Afterward, set a quarterly reminder to review subscriptions and give a single person responsibility for approving new ones.
Steps
- Match the charge descriptor to an account using your email search.
- Cancel in the account settings and send a written request for a refund.
- Save screenshots and replies with dates in one folder.
- Contact your card issuer if the vendor does not respond.

Apex is designed with month-to-month billing with in-app cancel, self-serve plan changes, and data export on cancel. These are partly built, so check the status badge for what is in place.
