How do I stop forgetting to follow up with flooring customers?

Process: Follow-up and reviews. Trade: Flooring installer. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerPut a dated task at every gap in a flooring job: after the measure, after the quote, when materials are ordered, and after the install. Each gap is a place where a customer wonders what is happening, and a short update fills it.

The explanation

Flooring has more waiting than most trades. The measure happens, the quote goes out, the customer thinks, material is ordered, material arrives, and then the install is scheduled. At each handoff the customer is in the dark unless you tell them what is next.

A quote follow-up should ask about the decision, not just the price. Samples, subfloor questions and furniture moving are common sticking points, and a customer who raises one is closer to saying yes than one who says nothing.

When materials are ordered, send the expected arrival and the install date. After the install, check in about how the floor looks and whether any edge or transition needs a touch-up, then ask for a review. Write each message and its date onto the job record.

What to watch for

  • Promising an install date before the material has a confirmed ship date.
  • Skipping the post-install check when a customer seems happy.

In flooring installer

Material lead times and acclimation periods are normal in flooring. Telling the customer which waiting period they are in, and when it ends, prevents the anxious call that interrupts your install day. All flooring installer scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

In progress

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex keeps follow-up tasks and notes on each customer, supports quote follow-up automations that are partly built, and includes a review request after a job. Sending requires a connected channel.
