Why is QuickBooks so expensive?
Short answerQuickBooks Online is priced at $38 to $340 a month because it bundles invoicing, bank feeds, reports, bill pay and accountant access, and the price rises with users and features. [1] Whether that is too much depends on what you would use otherwise. [1]
The explanation
The plan list shows the structure: more users and more features at each step, with Plus at $140 marked as the favorite. [1] A bigger company needs reporting and permissions that a one-truck operation never touches.
If you are small, there are three honest options. Stay on the lowest plan. Use a simpler tool or spreadsheet plus an accountant at tax time. Or pick a scheduler that sends clean invoice data, and let the accountant do the books monthly.
None of these is free of cost. The cost moves to your time or your accountant's. Ask your accountant which they prefer, since they will be the one dealing with the file. Ask about renewal pricing. Prices change, so read the live page again before you buy and again at renewal.

Apex is not an accounting tool. It can export reports to CSV and is building an accounting sync and file exports, so an accountant can work from the same records. Plans are $59, $99 or $129.
