Why has QuickBooks become so expensive?

Process: Integrations and accounting. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerI cannot verify QuickBooks price history from its current page, which lists Simple Start at $38 a month and Plus at $140. [1] What I can show is what pushes a bill up: moving to a higher tier, adding users, and the end of a promotional first-months discount. [1]

The explanation

The page advertises 50% off for three months, so a new customer sees a price roughly half of what follows. [1] When that period ends, the full price appears, which feels like an increase even though it is the list price.

Plans also pull features upward. If you needed inventory or more users, you moved from Simple Start to Plus or Essentials, and that step is a bigger price change than any annual increase. [1]

To check your own history, open your invoices from the vendor and compare the same plan across years. If the plan name and user count match and the price differs, ask support for the date of the change in writing. That gives you facts to decide with. Save the notice emails. Store them in one folder for your accountant.

How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex shows price changes to nobody by surprise: plans are by user band and can be changed from inside the account. Price figures are on the pricing page: $59, $99 and $129 a month.
