Is Square Appointments free?
Short answerYes, Square lists a Free plan with no monthly subscription cost, and says you pay processing fees when you take payments [1]. The free plan lists an online booking site, appointment reminders and unlimited staff calendars [1]. Cancellation fees and a waitlist sit on the paid Plus plan [1].
The explanation
The business model is visible on the page. The software tier costs nothing, but each card payment carries a processing rate, and the rate is higher on the Free plan than on the paid ones [1]. If you take few card payments, the total stays small. If you take many, the paid plan may come out ahead.
The paid tiers come with a 30 day free trial and can be cancelled or switched at any time, according to the FAQ [1]. That makes it easy to start free and upgrade when you need no-show protection.
Whether it is free in practice depends on your volume and needs. Run the numbers on a typical month of card sales, and check that the free tier covers the features you rely on.

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex has no free plan; it is priced by number of users from $59 a month. Card processing in its design is the processor's own rate with no Apex margin, and the cancellation policy piece is in progress.
