Is there free auto repair shop software?
Short answerFree tools can book appointments for an auto repair shop, but a shop needs vehicle history, estimates with approval, parts tracking and invoices, which a free calendar does not provide. Setmore advertises a free plan and Square Appointments lists $0 per location, both appointment-focused [1][2].
The explanation
A repair shop's central record is the vehicle, not the person. Year, make, model, VIN, mileage and past work should sit on one page, so the next visit starts with what the shop already knows. Free calendar tools keep the customer, with the car in a notes line.
The workflow is also different. A customer drops the car off, the shop inspects it, writes an estimate, waits for approval, orders parts, does the work and invoices. An appointment product only covers the first step, so the rest happens on paper or in another tool.
That is why free often means two products. Setmore lists a free plan with SMS reminders on a paid tier from $5 per user per month [1], and Square Appointments lists staff calendars with no employee limit [2]. Use one only for the front-door booking and keep the repair record elsewhere.
What to watch for
- Vehicle details stored only in a notes line.
- Estimates and approvals tracked in text threads.
In auto repair shop
A repair shop's work moves through drop-off, inspection, estimate, approval, parts and pickup, so a calendar alone covers only the first step. All auto repair shop scheduling questions.
