Does a calendar app give notifications?
Short answerYes, calendar apps alert the owner of the calendar before an event, usually by a pop-up, sound or email. They do not by default alert the customer who is meeting you. For a service business the customer reminder is the one that prevents a missed visit, and it needs its own setup.
The explanation
An alert on your phone helps you leave on time. It does nothing for the homeowner who forgot you were coming on Thursday. Those are two separate jobs: a reminder for your crew and a reminder for your customer.
Some calendar apps let you invite a customer by email, and the invite can carry its own reminder. That works for a consultation but is clumsy for a route of eight house visits, because every invite is built by hand and carries no arrival window or access notes.
A scheduling tool that sends the customer reminder from the visit record does this once and repeats it. It should send a day-before message, handle a reply or reschedule link, and tell the crew when a customer cancels. Keep the personal calendar alert as a backup for the crew, not as the customer system.
What to watch for
- Assuming your alert reaches the customer.
- Invites that land in spam.
- Reminders with no way to change the visit.
