What does bring-your-own AI mean for what I pay?
Short answerBring-your-own AI means the AI features run on an AI account you open and pay for yourself, so the provider bills you directly for what you use. Apex adds no usage charge on that route. No plan includes AI usage, and the optional AI Pack of $29 a month applies only while your own AI account stays connected.
The explanation
You open an account with an AI provider and connect it to the scheduler. The provider charges per use at its own rates, and those rates change, so read the provider's current pricing page before you decide. Your AI cost then moves with how much you use it: a busy phone line or heavy drafting costs more than a quiet month. Many providers let you set a spending limit in their dashboard, which keeps the variable cost bounded.
The upside is a short chain of charges: you pay the provider, and the scheduler does not add a usage layer on top. You also choose the provider. The downside is one more account to manage. If a key expires or a payment method fails, the AI features stop until you fix it, so someone on your team needs to own that account.
Apex's optional AI Pack is $29 per business per month. It is active only while your own AI account is connected, and it is described as covering phone answering software, before and after videos, estimate and reply help, and review replies. The other route for phone minutes is the prepaid wallet at $0.25 per AI phone minute. The wallet is rolling out, so until then AI stays off unless your own account is connected.
How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex is designed to work with an AI account you own, so the provider bills you and Apex adds no usage charge on that route. AI draft replies and an agent interface for your own AI are partly built.

More questions
Does Apex set a usage limit on bring-your-own AI?
Apex sets no usage limit on that route. Any limit comes from your AI provider's plan or from a spending cap you set in your provider account, so check both.
Do I need the AI Pack to use my own AI?
The pack is optional. It is described as covering phone answering software, before and after videos, estimate and reply help, and review replies. Ask for the current feature list and badges before you rely on any one of them.
What is the downside of bringing my own AI?
You manage another account. If the key expires or a payment fails, the AI features stop until you fix it, and your bill varies with use. Set a spending limit and name one person who owns the account.
