What is a business route?
Short answerA business route is a repeating list of customer stops that one crew visits in a set order on a set day, such as every Tuesday lawn stop in one neighborhood. Route-based companies sell recurring service, so the route is the schedule.
The explanation
Lawn, pool, pest and some cleaning companies do not book one-off appointments all day. They build routes: a named list of customers, a day of the week, a crew and a stop order. A new customer is slotted into a route that already passes their street.
This changes how you think about capacity. The question is not whether a time is free, it is whether a route has room and how far the new stop pulls the crew from the rest. Adding a house two blocks from an existing stop costs little. Adding one across town costs a detour on every visit.
Routes also need maintenance. Customers pause for vacations, cancel, or move, and someone must keep the list and the order current. A stale route sends a crew to a stop that no longer exists or leaves a new customer out.
What to watch for
- Adding stops by phone number order instead of by street.
- Forgetting to remove paused customers from the stop list.
How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex works toward route-based recurring routes with stop lists, recurring jobs generated automatically, and skip or pause handling. Each of these is partly built, and none is complete yet.
