How to import a file into Google Calendar?

Process: Integrations and accounting. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerGoogle Calendar imports files that end in .ics or .csv, from a computer, through Settings and then Import and Export. [1] If you have a .zip file, open it and import each .ics file inside separately. [1] Choose the destination calendar before you click Import.

The explanation

Per Google's help page, the steps are: open Settings, choose Import and Export in the left menu, select the file from your computer, pick which calendar receives the events and click Import. [1] The default is your primary calendar.

A zip file comes from exporting a whole account. It contains one ICS file per calendar, and Google says to take the individual files out of the zip and import each one on its own. [1] You cannot import the zip directly.

If you get an error, the file's format may be at fault, and Google has a troubleshooting article for import problems. [1] Common causes are a CSV with headers that are not in English, or a text editor that saved the file with the wrong extension. Check the extension and the header row before trying again.

Steps

  1. Export the events from your other calendar as an ICS or CSV file and save it on a computer.
  2. If the download is a zip file, open it and pull out each ICS file.
  3. Open the calendar's Settings and choose Import and Export.
  4. Select the file, choose the calendar to receive it, and click Import.
  5. Spot-check a few events for date, time and location.

How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward an iCal subscribe feed and two-way Google or Outlook calendar sync. Both are partly built, and a feed avoids repeated file imports.
