How to import customers into Shopify?
Short answerShopify imports a customer list from a CSV file, and its help center provides a template to follow. [1] Fill in the sheet, import it from the customers page, and decide whether to overwrite existing customers that share an email or phone number. [1]
The explanation
Shopify's help center says you can enter your customer list into a CSV file, then import it to the admin, or start from its template. [1] The template shows the columns that Shopify expects, so copy your data into those columns and not the other way round. [1]
The overwrite option matters. Shopify says that when you overwrite existing customers with the same email or phone number, all of that customer's data is replaced, including import tags. [1] If your list is a partial update, leave the option off.
Shopify also describes optional tagging of imported customers, which lets you build a segment from them. [1] For a service business, tagging an import with its source and date makes it easy to find the batch later. Test with a handful of rows first.
What to watch for
- Turning on overwrite for a list that holds only partial data.
- Importing a large file without testing a few rows.
How Apex does it
Not a scheduler feature
Apex is a scheduler, not an online store, so loading customers into a store is outside its job. Apex does work toward a CSV customer export, partly built, which could supply the file.
Apex Flow Scheduler is in early access. See how we label status.
