My electrician techs drive all over town every day, how do I stop wasting gas?

Process: Dispatch and routing. Trade: Electrician. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerSeparate planned electrical work from urgent calls. Put installs and quoted jobs on zone days, and keep one tech free to take emergencies. Collect parts needs the night before, so a single supply house trip replaces three separate runs during the working day.

The explanation

An electrician's day mixes two kinds of work that behave differently. Planned work, like a panel swap or fixture install, can be booked into a zone day. Service calls arrive unpredictably, and pulling a booked tech across town for one breaks the whole day.

A floating tech solves much of it. One person is assigned to the urgent calls, wherever they land, and the rest of the crew keeps to their zones. If you only have a small crew, set aside a block of the day, such as late morning, for walk-in problems.

Supply house trips are the other leak. Have each tech send a parts list by the end of the day, order for pickup or delivery, and make one run at a set time. Trucks stocked with the twenty parts you use most reduce the rest.

In electrician

Electrical customers with no power or a burning smell need you quickly. Quoted work such as lighting or a panel upgrade can wait for a zone day, and customers usually accept the date if you tell them early. All electrician scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward scheduling by zone and emergency or after-hours dispatch tiers, plus a daily route optimization. Zone scheduling and dispatch tiers are partly built, and the owner approves changes.
