How do I stop electrician customers from ghosting appointments?

Process: Cancellations and no-shows. Trade: Electrician. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerConfirm in writing that an adult will be home with access to the panel and the work area, send an on-the-way text, and apply a stated trip charge if nobody answers. Electrical work often cannot start without panel access, so a missed visit wastes the trip and the technician's day.

The explanation

Electricians need more than a front door. The panel may be in a locked garage or basement, and the work may require a power shutoff that someone at the house must approve. A visit without the right person present is not a half-job, it is no job.

Put those requirements in the confirmation: an adult home, panel accessible, pets secured. Ask for a reply that confirms them. The on-the-way text then gives a last chance to say that something has changed.

If nobody answers, treat it like any missed visit. Call, text, wait the stated period, mark the visit no-access and apply the trip charge disclosed at booking. Offer a new window right away, because most customers who missed a visit simply forgot, and will rebook once reminded.

Steps

  1. Write the access needs into the confirmation: adult home, panel reachable, pets secured.
  2. Ask for a reply that confirms those items.
  3. Send an on-the-way text when the technician leaves the previous stop.
  4. If no one answers, wait the stated period, apply the trip charge and offer a new window.

In electrician

Electrical visits often need panel access and someone present to approve a power shutoff. Because a technician cannot safely work around an unavailable panel, a confirmed access plan is as important as the time slot. All electrician scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

In progress

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex is designed to send confirmation messages and an on-my-way text with an ETA, and to apply a cancellation policy with no-show fee rules. Texting needs a connected provider account first, and the policy piece is in progress.
