My exterminator techs drive all over town every day, how do I stop wasting gas?

Process: Dispatch and routing. Trade: Pest control. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerRebuild pest control routes around the recurring customers first, one zone per day, then slot one-time and follow-up visits into the day the tech is already nearby. A scattered recurring list wastes the same miles every single cycle, and customers on it never notice the savings once it is fixed.

The explanation

Pest control is close to a route business. Quarterly or monthly plans repeat, so a poorly ordered list repeats its waste every time. That makes fixing it worth more than in a trade with unique jobs.

Start by mapping all recurring customers and assigning each to a zone and a day. Customers keep their service week but the weekday can often move. When you add a new plan, place it with the zone it belongs to and tell the customer the day, instead of fitting it wherever there is an open hour.

One-time treatments and re-treatment visits then fill the gaps. A caller with an ant problem in a zone you serve on Thursday is offered Thursday, unless it is urgent. Keep a short list of urgent categories so the exceptions are on purpose.

In pest control

Initial treatments take longer than maintenance visits. Use separate stop lengths for each so a new customer does not push the next five stops late. All pest control scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

In progress

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward route-based recurring routes with stop lists and scheduling by zone, plus a daily route optimization. Recurring routes are partly built, and the pest control pack is built as a screen only.
