My contractor techs drive all over town every day, how do I stop wasting gas?

Process: Dispatch and routing. Trade: General contractor. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerA remodeling crew sits on one site for days, so the wasted gas is in supply runs and estimate trips. Order materials for delivery, make one supply run a day on a set list, and group estimate visits by zone on the same afternoons.

The explanation

General contractor crews are not moving between stops all day, so route software helps less. The expensive driving comes from the owner or lead running to the supply house, and from estimate visits wedged between job-site checks.

For supplies, build the list the evening before and make one run at a set time. Ask suppliers about delivery for large orders, since a delivery costs less than an hour of a lead's time. A short checklist on each job tells you what is still missing.

For estimates, set aside blocks, such as two afternoons a week, and book them by neighborhood. A customer who wants a Monday morning estimate across town is a conversation about a different day. Offer the afternoon block for their area, and most will take it.

In general contractor

Multi-day projects mean the crew has a home base for a week or more. Spend your scheduling effort on sequencing trades and material arrival, and on grouping estimates, not on reordering daily stops. All general contractor scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward multi-day jobs and projects and scheduling by zone, with drive time shown between jobs. Both are not yet connected to saved customer data, and project tools are partly built.
