My concrete techs drive all over town every day, how do I stop wasting gas?

Process: Dispatch and routing. Trade: Concrete contractor. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerFor a concrete business, route ordering matters less than who drives where. Pour days are fixed by the delivery truck, so save fuel by separating estimators from crews, batching site visits by zone, and sending equipment on one loaded trip.

The explanation

Concrete work is not a list of stops you can reorder. A pour has a delivery time, a crew and a short window before the mix sets. That part cannot be optimized by a route tool, so the savings come from the work around it.

Estimators are the usual source of waste. If the owner both estimates and works crews, the day is cut up by site visits. Give estimating its own days or its own person, and group visits by zone so one trip covers several estimates.

Equipment and forms matter too. Plan which tools go to which site before the truck leaves, so no one drives back for a missing form or tool. A short checklist the night before costs nothing and saves a trip.

In concrete contractor

Pour days, curing time and weather shape the whole week. Group prep and form work at nearby sites on the days between pours, so the crew stays in one area when they cannot be pouring. All concrete contractor scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

In progress

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward scheduling by zone and multi-day jobs and shows drive time between jobs. Multi-day job scheduling is built as a screen, and it is not yet connected to saved data.

Apex Flow Scheduler is in early access. See how we label status.
