Crew capacity: what it means
DefinitionCrew capacity is the amount of work one specific crew can finish in a day, based on how many people it has, what they are trained to do, and what equipment is on the truck. It differs by crew, so a single company-wide number is rarely accurate.
How it works in a service business
A two-person crew with a trailer can mow a dozen small lawns, while a three-person crew with a lift can handle two big tree jobs. Setting capacity per crew lets the booking system route the right work to the right team. It also exposes bottlenecks, such as only one person with a pesticide license. The tradeoff is upkeep: per-crew settings drift when someone leaves or a truck goes into the shop. A common mistake is setting capacity once and forgetting it, so the system keeps booking a crew that is short a person. Revisit the numbers whenever the roster or equipment changes, and mark time off ahead of time.
Example
A landscaping owner sets crew one at eight mow stops and crew two at five installs a day, then reduces crew two to zero on a day a helper is out.
