How much does QuickBooks cost per year?
Short answerAt list price, QuickBooks Online comes to $456 a year for Simple Start, $1020 for Essentials, $1680 for Plus and $4080 for Advanced, by my arithmetic from the monthly prices of $38, $85, $140 and $340. [1] A first-months promotion lowers year one only. [1]
The explanation
These totals multiply the listed monthly price by twelve. They are my calculation, not figures the vendor prints. Taxes and add-ons are not included. [1]
In the first year, the page advertises 50% off for three months. On Simple Start that would save about $57 by my arithmetic, since half of $38 for three months is $57. [1] The saving is small next to the full year, so do not plan around it.
For budgeting, use the full price and treat the promotion as a bonus. Also add what you pay in payment fees on invoices, which depend on the processor. Compare the yearly sum with the price of an accountant's hours to see whether the software or the human is the bigger cost. Prices were read on 2026-10-07.
