How to price snow plowing jobs?

Process: Quotes and estimates. Trade: Snow removal. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerPrice snow plowing as a per-push charge, a per-inch charge or a seasonal contract, each with a trigger depth, a response-time promise, a salt option and a minimum. Seasonal contracts smooth income but need a clear cap on events, while per-push pricing follows the weather.

The explanation

Per push is simple: each time you plow, you bill. Add a trigger depth, such as a stated number of inches of accumulation, so both sides know when you will come. Tiers by depth handle deeper storms.

A seasonal contract trades predictability for risk. If winter is mild you earn more per event, and if it is brutal you may lose. Many contractors cap the number of events, or add a per-event charge above the cap, and write that in the contract.

Size the lot, count obstacles, and time the route to get your cost per visit. Salting, sidewalks and pile hauling are extra lines. Say when you start, such as within hours after snow stops, and what happens if equipment fails. Write the trigger depth on the first page.
