How to price a house cleaning job?

Process: Quotes and estimates. Trade: Residential cleaning (maid service). Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerPrice a house cleaning job from the time it takes: estimate hours by rooms and condition, multiply by crew size and a loaded hourly cost, add supplies and travel, then add margin. Charge more for the first clean, which takes longer, and offer a lower recurring rate once the home is at baseline.

The explanation

Time is the honest basis. Track how long your crew takes on real homes by bedrooms, bathrooms and condition, and use your own numbers. A home last cleaned months ago needs more time than one on a weekly cycle.

Add what the clock misses: supplies, vacuum wear, fuel and the drive between homes. Then add a margin that covers insurance, supervision and the days with no work. A flat price per home is fine as long as it comes from your time log.

Quote the first visit as a deep clean at a separate price, then give a recurring rate for weekly, every two weeks or monthly. Say what is included in a standard visit and what is an extra, such as inside the oven, windows or pets' hair.

In residential cleaning (maid service)

Recurring cleaning rewards a stable crew and a fixed day. Price the first clean to cover the extra hours so the recurring rate can stay fair. All residential cleaning (maid service) scheduling questions.
