How to cancel an appointment in field service software?

The explanation
An appointment is one visit inside a larger job. A customer may cancel Tuesday's visit but still want the work done, so the job should stay open and ready to schedule. Mark the visit as cancelled so it leaves the calendar but stays in the history.
Notify both sides. The technician needs to know right away, ideally through the same app they use for the day list, so they do not drive to a closed door. The customer should receive a confirmation of the cancel with a rebooking option.
Fix the route. Removing a stop can leave a gap or a longer drive, so look at the order of the remaining stops and slide later jobs forward if customers allow. Offer the gap to a waiting customer if you have one.
