My auto repair shop software is too complicated, is there something simpler?

Process: Software pricing and choosing. Trade: Auto repair shop. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerAuto repair shop software becomes too complicated when it tries to run parts, payroll and marketing in one screen. The core is smaller: drop-off appointments, a record for each vehicle, and customer approval before extra work. Choose a tool that handles those three well and hide the rest until you need it.

The explanation

A shop day is shaped by bays and drop-off times, not by drive routes. You need exact slots so cars arrive spread through the morning, not all at eight. You also need to see which cars are waiting on parts or approval, because those block a bay.

The vehicle record is your memory. Year, make, mileage, past repairs and notes should be one tap from the customer. When a regular returns, you want to see what was done last time, not retype it. Photos of damage or worn parts help you explain a recommendation.

Test by running a realistic day: three drop-offs, one needing approval for extra work, one waiting on a part. If the software shows the day clearly and sends the approval request without effort, it is simple enough. If it asks for fields you never use, hide them.

In auto repair shop

Shops work in exact drop-off slots with vehicles occupying bays for hours or days. Customer approval for added repairs is a frequent bottleneck, so a clear record of what was recommended and approved saves arguments. All auto repair shop scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex has exact time slots, an auto repair pack with vehicle records, and online quote approval by the customer. Exact slots are in progress and the repair pack and approvals are still rolling out.
