How do I stop appliance repair customers from canceling at the last minute?
Short answerCharge a trip or diagnostic fee that applies when a customer cancels inside your cutoff, shrink the arrival window, and answer new requests quickly. Appliance customers shop several shops at once, so speed and a small commitment keep the visit. A free promise to come out is the easiest thing to cancel.
The explanation
A broken refrigerator or washer makes people call three shops and keep the first one that responds. When your arrival window is a vague four hours, a competitor who offers a tighter slot wins the cancellation. Narrowing the window, or sending a live arrival message, removes much of that pull.
The trip fee is the other half. Customers cancel a free visit without a thought, but a stated fee that is credited toward the repair if they proceed behaves like a deposit. It signals that the technician's time has a cost and that the visit is a commitment.
Add a parts rule. When a special-order part is ordered for a repair, take the part cost up front, since that purchase cannot be undone by the customer's change of mind.
In appliance repair
Appliance calls are often a diagnostic visit followed by a parts order and a return trip. The trip fee covers the first visit, and a deposit covers special-order parts, so a cancel after the part arrives does not leave you holding the cost. All appliance repair scheduling questions.

Apex is designed to offer arrival windows, a cancellation policy with no-show fee rules, and an on-the-way text with an ETA. Texts need the customer's own provider account connected first, and the policy piece is in progress.
