Confirmation request: what it means

Glossary term. Reviewed 2026-10-07. Process: Reminders and texting.

DefinitionA confirmation request is a message sent before a scheduled visit asking the customer to confirm that they will be there, usually by replying or tapping a button. Unanswered requests warn the business early so the time can be freed or the customer called.

How it works in a service business

A plain reminder tells the customer about the visit, while a confirmation request needs an answer, which makes it more useful for catching likely no-shows. Typical timing is one or two days ahead, with a follow-up if there is no reply. The tradeoff is annoyance: customers on a long recurring plan may not want to confirm every week, so many owners use it only for new customers or high-value jobs. A common mistake is sending a request and doing nothing with silence. Decide what happens when there is no reply, such as a call, a second message, or releasing the slot to a waitlist, and make sure it fits your cancellation policy.

Example

Two days before a first-time deep clean, the customer receives a message asking to reply yes. No reply arrives, so the office calls the next morning to confirm.
