Booking widget: what it means

Glossary term. Reviewed 2026-10-07. Process: Lead capture.

DefinitionA booking widget is an embeddable block of code that places a booking form inside a page of the business's own website, so visitors can request service without leaving. It does the same job as a hosted booking page, but inside your site's design.

How it works in a service business

Many owners already have a website and want booking to feel like part of it. A widget is pasted into a page, a button or a pop-up, and submissions flow to the same place as the hosted page. The tradeoff is maintenance: embedded code can break when the website is rebuilt, and some site builders restrict what can be embedded. A common mistake is installing the widget and never testing a submission. Place a test request from a phone, confirm it reaches the right inbox, and check that the widget loads quickly. A hosted booking page link makes a good backup for social profiles and email signatures, where embedding is not possible.

Example

A cleaning company pastes a booking widget onto its Services page. A visitor chooses a service, enters a zip code and sees the form without being sent to another site.
