How much does a roofing job cost?
Short answerA roofing job costs the sum of materials, labor, tear-off and disposal, permits, safety and overhead, plus profit, and it varies with roof size, pitch and condition. I give no market rate here because local prices differ too much. Measure the roof, price each part, and add a margin.
The explanation
Size comes first, usually counted in squares of one hundred square feet. Pitch matters because steep roofs need more safety gear and slow every worker. Layers matter too: removing two old layers takes more labor and more disposal than one.
Materials are the next big line. Shingles, underlayment, flashing, vents and nails vary by product, and waste adds a percentage on cuts and valleys. Then count the crew days, the dump fee and any permit.
Condition changes the price after the tear-off. Rotten decking is found only when the old roof is off, so a good quote says how replaced boards are charged per sheet. Add overhead and your target margin last, and give the customer the total in writing. Keep photos of the roof before and after, since they settle most disputes.
In roofer
Roofing work is weather-limited and often urgent after a storm, so quotes need an expiry date and a plan for rain days. Reschedule notices to customers should be part of the job from the start. All roofer scheduling questions.

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex's quote builder and budget-based estimating are being built, with weather rescheduling in progress. The design holds a quote with line items, an expiry date and an online approval step.
