How to cancel a timesheet and team app?

Process: Reporting and payroll. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerBefore canceling a timesheet or team app, export hours for the current pay period and the full year, tell your payroll provider or accountant, move staff to a new clock in method and keep copies of time records for as long as your accountant advises. Cancel only after the last pay run.

The explanation

Timesheets are payroll evidence. If a worker disputes pay or a regulator asks for records, the time data is what you show. So export a full year of hours by employee, with breaks and any edits, before the account closes.

Plan the switch around a pay run. Canceling mid period can cut off clock ins and leave hours missing. Choose the first day of a new pay period for the new method, run the last period in the old tool, export and then cancel. Tell staff clearly where to clock in and how to correct mistakes.

Check connections. Payroll providers, job costing and field service software may read hours from the app. Switch those links to the new source first, and run one test period side by side if possible.

What to watch for

  • Cancelling the app in the middle of a pay period.
  • No saved export of overtime and breaks.
  • Staff clocking in to the old app after the change.
