Quiet hours: what it means
DefinitionQuiet hours are a daily span of time, such as late evening through early morning, during which automatic texts and emails are held until the window ends. They keep a reminder from buzzing a customer's phone at night, which protects goodwill and reduces opt-outs.
How it works in a service business
A scheduler may queue a message at midnight because that is when a job was changed. Quiet hours hold it until a reasonable morning time. The tradeoff is timeliness: a message that must arrive before an early appointment can be delayed, so the setting needs sense about what is urgent. A common mistake is using the business's time zone for every customer when some live in another. Pick the hours by the customer's local time where you can. Rules about the hours for marketing or automated contact vary by state and country, so check your own rules rather than assuming a default is enough, and let customers reply to stop messages at any time.
Example
A customer reschedules online at eleven at night. The confirmation text is held and sent at eight the next morning, after the quiet hours window closes.
