How to switch from Skimmer in an afternoon, with undo

Facts about Skimmer were read from its own pages (see the comparison). Verify before you act. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

The planMoving a small pool route can fit in an afternoon. A route with years of history, equipment records and chemical logs will take longer. Import tools from the old system to Apex are rolling out, and the competitor import features are still demo status, so plan to check every record yourself.

Before you start

  • Keep your old account open and paid until the new setup has run a full service cycle.
  • Note which customers pay by autopay, since cards usually have to be re-entered.
  • List each recurring route day and stop order.
  • Write down your connected accounting and payment integrations.
  • Pause automated customer emails from the old system on the day you cut over.

The steps

  1. Export from the old systemLook in the vendor's own help center for a customer and route export. We did not verify the file format [1]. Save every file you can get, and take screenshots of the route list as a backup.
    • LD16Customer export (CSV) at any time(In progress)
  2. Check the fileOpen the export in a spreadsheet. Look for missing addresses, merged names, duplicate customers and phone numbers with no digits. Fix them now, because a clean file makes the side-by-side check much easier.
    • LD15Customer import from CSV/other software(In progress)
  3. Import and compare side by sideLoad the file into Apex and compare a sample of ten customers against the old screen. Check address, phone, service day and notes. Import is demo status today, so treat the first run as a trial.
    • OB02Import from competitor with side-by-side check(Rolling out)
    • OB04Import from Jobber / HCP / Workiz / ServiceTitan exports(Rolling out)
  4. Rebuild recurring routesRecreate each weekly stop list with its day and order. Confirm the route looks right on the map before any customer is told about a change. Recurring job generation is partly built.
    • SC10Recurring jobs auto-generated(In progress)
    • SC05Route optimization (daily)(Built)
  5. Test a request end to endSubmit a test request through the booking page, watch it arrive pending, confirm it as the owner, then cancel it. This proves the request flow works for your own setup.
    • BK11Booking requires owner approval (request mode)(Built)
    • BK24Reschedule / cancel link for customer(Built, rolling out)
  6. Run both for a full cycle, then cut overKeep serving from Skimmer while Apex runs a full cycle in parallel [1]. When the totals match, move the route to Apex and keep the old export as your backup copy.
    • OB14Switch protection (never lose data, ledger)(Rolling out)

Apex status for the import and switch tools is shown beside each step. Status as of 2026-10-07.

Undo plan

In progress

Keep the Skimmer account open until Apex has run one full cycle, so you can go back by simply continuing to use it [1]. Apex offers customer export as CSV, and export on cancel is partly built. Switch protection is a demo feature, so do not count on an automatic rollback.

  • OB14Switch protection (never lose data, ledger)(Rolling out)
  • AD10Data export on cancel(In progress)
  • LD16Customer export (CSV) at any time(In progress)

Switching questions

Will my pool history move to Apex automatically?

Not automatically. Import from other software is rolling out and is demo status. Export what Skimmer allows [1], then check each record in Apex. Treat equipment and chemical history as something to verify, not assume.

Does Apex price by pool or by location?

No. Skimmer lists per-location pricing [2][3]. Apex prices by number of users, starting at $59 a month for one user, so a large route with few staff is priced differently.

Can I switch back if the move goes badly?

Yes, if you kept the account open [5]. The vendor's own page describes a 30 day refund window for new customers [5], which may not apply to a returning account, so ask before relying on it.
