What is a route plan?

Process: Dispatch and routing. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerA route plan is the day sheet a crew follows: stops in order, arrival windows, drive gaps, start and end points and job notes. It is a usable plan only if a tech can read it on the road and trust the times it shows.

The explanation

At minimum, a route plan lists each stop with address, expected arrival, job length and the work to do. Better ones also show drive time between stops, so the crew sees where the slack is, and customer notes such as a gate code or a dog in the yard.

The start and end matter. A crew that leaves from home on the first stop behaves differently from one that loads at the shop. Say which, and where the day ends, so the last drive is counted in the plan.

Give the plan to the crew in a form they will actually open. A printed sheet works for some, a phone link to maps works for others. If the plan changes mid-day, the crew needs the new version, not the old one in their pocket.

What to watch for

  • Handing out a plan with no drive times shown.
  • Changing the order and not telling the crew.

How Apex does it

Rolling out

The screen and the rules are built and tested. Saving real customer data is not connected yet. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward a printable route sheet, an export of the route to a maps app, and drive time between jobs. The printable sheet is built as a screen, and saving real data to it is not connected yet.
