My dog grooming techs drive all over town every day, how do I stop wasting gas?

Process: Dispatch and routing. Trade: Dog groomer. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerGive your grooming van a neighborhood for each day, then book recurring clients onto their area's day. Since breed and coat set how long each groom takes, enter real stop lengths so the day fits and the van drives less between appointments.

The explanation

A grooming van runs on one appointment at a time, each lasting anywhere from under an hour to several, depending on the dog. The drive between them is unpaid time, and the van's fuel adds up quickly across a week.

Set neighborhood days and tell clients which day you are in their area. Recurring clients make this easy: put them on a regular cycle, in the same slot, so the route repeats and holds together. New clients are offered the day for their address.

Enter stop lengths by breed or coat type and not a single average. A poodle and a short-haired terrier do not take the same time, and a day built on averages runs late. Review the notes after a few weeks and adjust.

In dog groomer

Mobile grooming vans also need water, power and a safe place to park, so some stops cost more setup time than others. Note those on the customer record so a day is planned with them in mind. All dog groomer scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

In progress

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward scheduling by zone and recurring service plans and includes a daily route optimization. Zone scheduling is partly built, and recurring plan tools are built as screens only.
