My fence techs drive all over town every day, how do I stop wasting gas?
Short answerBatch fence layout and measuring visits by area on set days, and keep installation crews on one site until the job is done. Utility marking and material staging create extra trips, so schedule them in the same neighborhood as the install.
The explanation
A fence job produces several trips: a measure and layout visit, a wait for utility marking, material delivery and the install. If each is scheduled independently, trucks cross the metro for single short tasks.
Put layout visits into a weekly block and group them by zone. Install crews work best when they stay put. Have materials delivered to the site, not picked up each morning, and plan the install start for when the marks and the delivery are both confirmed.
Use a simple job board with three columns: needs layout, waiting on marking or materials, ready to install. Look at the ready column each evening and pick the next day's zone from it. That prevents a crew from showing up to a site that is not ready.
In fence contractor
Rain, frozen ground and gate access change install dates. Having two or three ready sites in the same area lets a crew switch jobs without a long drive when one site falls through. All fence contractor scheduling questions.
How Apex does it

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.
Apex works toward scheduling by zone and multi-day jobs and includes a service area by zip, city or radius. Zone scheduling is partly built, and multi-day jobs are built as a screen.
