My drywall techs drive all over town every day, how do I stop wasting gas?

Process: Dispatch and routing. Trade: Drywall contractor. Reviewed 2026-10-07.

Short answerPlan drywall by stage and by zone. Hanging, taping and finishing each need a visit with drying time between them, so line up stages for jobs in the same neighborhood and send the crew back to that area on the day the next coat is ready.

The explanation

One drywall job means several visits: hang the board, tape and first coat, second coat, sand and finish. Drying time sits between them. If every job is on its own timeline in a different part of town, the crew spends the gaps driving.

The fix is to let the drying gaps work for you. Schedule jobs in the same area so that their stages line up, and put one neighborhood on each day. While one house dries, the crew moves to a nearby house that needs the next stage.

Have board and compound delivered where possible, and load the truck for the whole day before leaving. Track which jobs are waiting on which stage in one list, so the next day's zone is chosen from what is ready, not from memory.

In drywall contractor

Humidity and temperature change drying time, so the stage dates move. Keep a ready-to-finish list and fill each day's zone from it rather than from a fixed calendar made weeks earlier. All drywall contractor scheduling questions.

How Apex does it

In progress

Part of this is built. The rest is not. Status as of 2026-10-07; the badge shows the least-built feature involved.

Apex works toward scheduling by zone and multi-day jobs and shows drive time between jobs. Multi-day job scheduling is built as a screen, and saving real data to it is not connected yet.
