Push notification: what it means
DefinitionA push notification is a short alert delivered to a phone or computer screen by an app or website, even when it is not open. For crews it tells a technician about a new or changed job without a text or call from the office.
How it works in a service business
Push alerts are quick and cost nothing per message, which makes them handy for internal use such as new job assignments, schedule changes and messages from the office. The tradeoff is permission and reliability. The user must allow notifications, phone battery settings can delay them, and different phone brands behave differently. A common mistake is relying on push alone for something urgent, like a same-day change, and not confirming that the tech saw it. Have a fallback such as a call for time-critical changes. Ask each crew member to enable notifications during setup and test one, and review settings after phone updates. Customers are better reached by text or email, since many will not install anything.
Example
The dispatcher moves a job to the afternoon. The technician's phone shows an alert with the new time, and she taps it to open the updated job details.
