On-my-way text: what it means
DefinitionAn on-my-way text is a short message sent to a customer when a technician starts driving to their address, usually with a name and an estimated arrival time. It narrows a wide arrival window and answers the where-are-you call before it comes.
How it works in a service business
Customers dislike waiting at home with no information. A message when the tech leaves tells them to be ready, put the dog away and open the gate. It also lowers no-shows at the door. The tradeoff is accuracy: if the estimate is wrong and the tech is late, the message creates a promise that is broken. A common mistake is sending it too early, such as when the morning route starts, instead of when the tech actually departs for that stop. Texting also requires a connected messaging account and carrier registration. Keep the wording simple, include the tech's first name, and let customers reply with a problem. Let techs tap when they leave so the estimate reflects real timing.
Example
A technician finishes one job and taps on-my-way. The next customer receives a text with the technician's first name and an arrival estimate about twenty minutes out.
